PostFrameProvider Architecture

Bring Your
Own Provider

PostFrame doesn't lock you into a single email provider. Connect the services you already trust and let PostFrame handle routing, failover, and load balancing across all of them.

Automatic failover

Configure primary and fallback providers. If your primary provider goes down or returns errors, PostFrame moves to the next available provider on the same request — no manual intervention, and the failed attempts are logged on the email.

Priority-based routing
Assign priority levels — PostFrame tries providers in order
Circuit breaker per provider
Five failures in five minutes open the circuit; the provider is skipped for sixty seconds, then tried again — and you can run a live health check any time
Provider per send
Pass a provider_id on any send call to pin that message to one connection — marketing through one provider, transactional through another
Amazon SESACTIVE — Priority 1
PostmarkSTANDBY — Priority 2
MailgunSTANDBY — Priority 3

If Priority 1 fails, PostFrame moves to Priority 2 on the same request — up to three attempts per send — and records which provider finally delivered it.

Questions

Bring your own provider, answered

Which providers can I bring?

Amazon SES, Postmark, Mailgun, SendGrid, SparkPost, Brevo, Mailtrap and more — 24 adapters — plus any server that speaks SMTP. Each connection stores its credentials in the secrets vault.

Do I have to bring a provider at all?

No. Every plan sends through PostFrame's managed pool, which runs on Amazon SES with warmed IPs. Bring your own only when you want to send from an account, region or reputation you already own.

How does failover decide which provider to use?

Providers are tried in priority order. A failed send moves to the next provider on the same request, up to three attempts; after five failures in five minutes a provider's circuit opens and it is skipped for sixty seconds.

Can I choose the provider for a specific email?

Yes. Pass a provider_id on the send call and that message goes through the named connection first, with the normal failover chain behind it.

Does tracking depend on the provider?

No. PostFrame rewrites links and adds the open pixel before the message reaches any provider, so opens, clicks, bounces and complaints report the same way on every connection.
