A Day in the Life of a Field Service Team

From morning dispatch to evening reconciliation — every service call in CrewGrid, BookSlot, PayGate and TitanLedger, as they ship today.

The shared calendar every crew and dispatcher works from — jobs, appointments, quotes and invoice due dates on one month view.

7:00 AM

Morning Dispatch

Your dispatcher opens the CrewGrid board: 12 HVAC service calls across the metro area. Each work order carries its type, priority and site address, so jobs are assigned by location and urgency and every technician starts the day with their list, the customer history and the address ready to navigate to.

On-Site Service

The tech arrives at the first job: AC not cooling. They check in — CrewGrid verifies the arrival by GPS within 500 m of the site — review the service notes, and diagnose a failed compressor. From the phone they build a BidForge quote for the repair, capture before photos, and get the customer's signature to approve it — all without calling the office.

Parts & Completion

The tech pulls the compressor from StockShelf inventory and returns to finish the job. They mark the work order complete, upload after photos, and send the TitanLedger invoice with its PayGate payment link. The customer pays by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or bank transfer on their own phone and receives the receipt by email instantly.

End-of-Day Reconciliation

Techs check out. Your dashboard shows 12/12 jobs completed, 10 paid on-site, 2 invoiced on net-15 terms. Labor hours, parts used and payments are all logged in one place when you head home, and a CSV export of invoices and payments goes to your accountant whenever they ask.

Inventory Reorder & Weekly Review

Friday's inventory count in StockShelf flags two parts below the reorder threshold; you raise a purchase order before Monday's jobs instead of discovering the shortage on-site. The week's revenue, completed jobs and payment mix roll up on the dashboard for your Friday review.

The apps in this day

Every step is a launch app. Field dispatch, inventory and e-signatures ship on Pro ($99/mo, 5 users); booking and the shared calendar start on Team.

What this replaces

A 3-5 person HVAC, plumbing or electrical crew running the field-service tool alone — before any separate CRM or booking tool — already costs more than EternalEngine's entire back office:

  • Housecall Pro Essentials (5 users, annual)$149/mo
  • Jobber Connect (3 users, annual)~$177/mo

Other tools: $149–177/mo for dispatch and invoicing alone, before a CRM, booking page or email tool. EternalEngine: $99/mo (Pro, 5 users) — dispatch, inventory, invoicing, CRM, booking and AI in one bill.

Pro at $99/mo undercuts both while adding a CRM pipeline, booking page and AI assistant neither competitor includes at that price.

Why Field Service Companies Choose EternalEngine

GPS-Verified Arrivals

Every check-in is verified against the site address — an arrival only counts within 500 m, and a departure needs a prior arrival, so the trail cannot be faked. Status walks from en route to on site to in progress on the dispatch board.

Runs on the Phone in Hand

CrewGrid opens in any phone browser — nothing to install, nothing to update. It needs a data connection at the site; there is no offline mode today, and we say so rather than promise one.

Photo Proof & Signatures

Replace paper work orders with digital ones. Capture before-and-after photos and the customer's signature on completion; everything is timestamped against the work order and the check-in.

Questions

Field Service questions

Which plan includes dispatch?

CrewGrid ships on Pro ($99/mo, 5 users) and Business ($199/mo, 15 users). Team ($49/mo, 3 users) gives a small crew the CRM, BookSlot scheduling and email; it does not include the dispatch board.

Is the GPS tracking a live map of every technician?

No. CrewGrid verifies arrival and departure check-ins against the site address (within 500 m, accuracy inside 100 m). It does not stream a technician's location between jobs — if live GPS breadcrumbs are your first requirement, Housecall Pro and Jobber sell that on their upper tiers.

Does the crew app work offline?

Not today. CrewGrid runs in a phone browser and needs a data connection to load work orders and save check-ins, photos and signatures. Cell coverage at the site is enough; nothing installs on the phone.

Can a technician take payment on site?

Yes, without hardware. The TitanLedger invoice carries a PayGate payment link; the customer pays by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or bank transfer on their own phone and the invoice marks itself paid when the payment settles. There is no card-reader device.

Can I track parts and inventory?

Yes. StockShelf (Pro and up) tracks stock across warehouses and bins, with purchase orders, stocktakes and FIFO, LIFO or average-cost valuation on an immutable transaction ledger.
